Talking How rude!

I answered my phone tonight and listened to a recorded message telling me my warranty on my vehicle may about to run out and to press 9 to talk to someone about extending it, so I press 9 and waited a bit then a live person came on and asked me my year, make and model. I told him I have a 77 F150 and the bum hung up on me!
Go figure.

For those kinds of calls I always try to keep them on the phone as long as possible.

I would have told them, "Wait a minute. I may be interested in something like that. Tell me a little about the details of your warranty. What all does it cover?"

And go from there. Since they want to sell you something that's HIGHLY profitable for them, they'll play along for a good while. Don't tell them what you've got, or make up a recent make and model, and press on. Don't divulge any information that would give them a reason to hang up. Waste their time just like they're wasting yours.

After repeatedly telling a well-known home improvement contracting firm to remove me from their call list, I actually set an appointment to have them come out to measure for replacement windows and doors. Had them do the whole house. Then, had them write up the estimate for my signature.

That's when I told them the express purpose was to waste their time (he had an apprentice with him), just like they had been wasting mine. Told him to go back to the "boiler room", find the chalk board, and put DO NOT CALL (my phone number) in all caps.

Then I threw them out.

It stopped the calls.

Has anyone taken to cutting any and all identifying information out of those offers you get in the USPS for credit cards and re-fi'ing, putting all the junk (stripped) paper back into their return envelope, and dropping it back into the mail?

That way, they'd get to pay the Post Office to dispose of the junk paper they sent to you.

I heard somewhere it's not legal to do that. Can anybody confirm this?

I sure wouldn't advocate anybody doing anything contrary.

YES! It's one of my hobbies. And I do not remove my address labels, but any of the sheets that have my address I tear up so that they cannot be used by someone as an actual application. Somedays I will have several of them to go out in the next days mail.

I don't see how it could be illegal. I'm sending their stuff, back to them. So I'm using their prepaid as offered. It's only illegal if you fraudulently use their prepaid envelopes elsewhere.

I wish everyone would do it. It might cut down on the junk mail. But I can assure you of this, the companies are too stupid to stop send the stuff to me. The same companies just keep sending more.

I'm sure I get at least one everyday and usually more. If I sit down to read the mail I will reinsert the junk mail. But if I'm busy I just 86 it unopened. We really should shred all those credit offers but I'm too lazy.

Brady, buy that condo. Once you own property they will bury you in credit card and refi offers. Although the refi offers have slowed lately.
