TDEC: APC: Vehicle Inspection Program here's a link to your area. I read vehicle model year 1975 and newer must pass emissions. But more info by county is linked on that page I have marked here. For an EFI engine to run at its best, all the emissions sensors and such would need to be there anyway.

I looked at that page earlier, but didn't notice the 1975 and newer note.
Most likely I need to get this done before Shelby county gets tagged. I didn't know those other counties had emissions tests. With the urban sprawl that's going on locally, its only a matter of time. I don't know if the EPA can tell Desoto county MS and Crittenden county AR to do this as well. I might have a chance to get grandfathered for a while.
And no I don't go move back into the city limits. Dave I don't know how long you've been away, but it is much worse! City vehicle inspections are the least of their worries!

True, although the Ford 5.0 EFI with mass air can get along fine without the smog pump and catalytic converters (or, as they say in Shelby County, Cadillac converters). You will need everything else... O2 sensors, MAF, etc. Later Mustangs (4.6) really can't be tampered with, although you can remove two of the four converters and not have any issues.
(5) When a motor vehicle is equipped with other than the original engine or when a motor vehicle has
been constructed, modified, customized or altered in such a way so that the model year cannot be
clearly determined, the vehicle shall be classified for purposes of the emission performance test by the
model year of the chassis.
If I'm reading this right, if I put another engine other than what came in the 54 originally, then the chassis (which of course is from 1954) would be the determining factor! I'm off to the junk yard!!
