Old AC leak

Ok, Got an '86 f250 lariat that should have AC, but apparently hasn't since about '96. (it was used) anyway, I've tried recharging it 2 or 3 times and each time it will last about a month or less and then it's nothing but hot air. (sucks in the summer)The bearings seem to be on the compressor, but I just don't know where in the world the air is leaking. Changed all the valve plugs and checked the hoses. Both the freon detector and the bubble trick showed nothing. I really would like to get this turd fixed so help me however you can. Thanks

Old AC leak

Check the front seal on the compressor. When doing leak checking, freon will fall to the floor. So, when checking the evap, keep the car closed for a while, HVAC in the 'off' position. Take the detector down by the recirc door, opened by hand, and see if it goes off. You would have captured the leaking R12 inside the plenum, and detected it as it fell out the recirc door.
Most leaks will carry oil out with the refrigerant. Look for oily spots on the hoses and at connections.
If it leaks out in 2 months, it should be detectable...
