Haven't posted in a long while because I haven't had any troubles...anyways tonight coming from a baseball game I got a 0401 code and engine light...EGR valve...its a 2004 with 26K on it.
Anyways I'm supposed to head up to the hills (sierras) for a day of fly fishing...will I be OK for the trip?...or am I doomed to failure?
I don't want to fool with it if I don't have to since I have the extended bumper to bumper I'l just take it in the next day.
P0401=insufficient EGR flow...really nothing to worry about if you don't have a running issue...alot of things besides the EGR valve can trigger that code..

Thanks
An 04 with 26000 miles WOW That is hard for me to imagine,I got 5 times that. Got a few rigs I guess do ya.
its funny this is an old post...yes they just replace the EGR...but I had a lot of problems after that.
In fact it goes in tomorrow...the turbo is sticking or not engaging in the AM after it sit overnight...takes about 2 miles before it's got any "go"...second time in for this, plus (get this) it shut off on me again on Monday TWICE!...once at the light and again while going around 55mph...man I give up on this deal.
So they'll leave it over night to see if they can replicate the problems and I said they can keep it until next week since I have my '91 7.3L to drive.
Yes it can sit a while at times...but for the last year I've driven it almost everyday to work. However, the dealer says I don't work far enough away so I need to find another job further away to avoid these types of problems or spend every weekend driving around the country side.
Nice huh?
So in retrospect even though I need a diesel to pull my trailer (the previous gasser was too weak) I also need to spend the extra time and money to drive it way more than I normally would. Kind of a double edged sword...and kind of stupid too. A vehicle you have to drive extra miles and time in order to keep it running good???
Same problem / issue here -- I bought this EX at 88k 2 years ago - we've only put about 7k on it, wanted it for ski trips, weekend hauls, pulling a trailer, etc., not my daily driver. Every time there is an issue, this one now being the EGR, I get told I'm not driving the vehicle enough. I didn't buy it to continually drive it, rather use it when I needed it. Go figure.
i only drive my 04 on weekends.round trip about 200 miles or so.haven't had sticking vanes yet.(knocking on wood while typing)how does the egr system know there's "insufficient flow"?isnt it just a pcm controlled valve told when to open and close by driver input?.
