1 was wondering about the 30000 mile transmission service. The manual says to change external filter and drain pan.The local dealer says to flush tranny at 30000 miles and change external filter at 60000 miles anybody have any input to this 2005 king ranch 4x4 1 ton crew cab
I had mine flushed at the dealership (requires a heated flush machine) and I changed my external filter at 30k. Others have just drained the fluid from the pan and changed the external filter. Either is OK.
I had mine flushed by the dealer when I bought it at 60,000 miles. The service writer was all confused thinking that it was too early to do at that mileage, but I was paying so he did what I said. That is interesting that your manual says that. I need to look at mine to see what it says.
The manual states to do a drain and refill and replace the external filter.
Many like to do the "flush" and get 100% of the fluid changed out.
I personally, do the flush and external filter every 30,000 miles and every other (60,000 miles) I do the flush procedure and then drop the pan and change out the internal filter.
This is over kill.... but I am OK with that!!!!
1) Flush fluid - Mercon SP fluid only.
2) Change external filter
3) Drop pan and change internal fluid and clean pan
4) Refill with Mercon SP to bring level back up to full mark.
I have my dealer do it for me and I watch them... it is fun to watch and learn... and ensure that only Mercon SP fluid gets used!!!
Strange that manuals say differnt things, my 2005 says....
30,000 miles (48,000 km)
• Change engine oil and replace oil filter
• Replace engine- and frame-mounted fuel filters
• Change automatic transmission fluid and external filter element
• Perform multi-point inspection (recommended)
• Inspect tires for wear and rotate
• Inspect air filter restriction gauge, replace filter as required
• Inspect and lubricate steering linkage, ball joints, suspension,
driveshaft and u-joints
• Inspect engine cooling system and hoses
• Inspect brake pads, shoes, rotors, drums, brake lines and hoses and
parking brake system.

What is strange.... this thread is about transmission fluid changes only.
The manual does state to change the fluid and replace the external filter.... everyone is in agreement with this point!!!
What the manual does not state is to drain and refill or flush the system for 100% fluid exchange???
Some of us, go the extra mile... and flush the fluid and change the filter every 30,000 miles to get a 100% fluid change... and then at the next interval, do that as well as drop the pan after the flush and then clean the pan and change the internal filter (as well as clean off the magnet).
With this method, I now have 100% new fluid, 2 new filters (internal and external) and the pan bottom is cleaned out (this overkill procedure is done every 60,000 miles).... and every 30,000 is just the fluid flush and external filter.
So again... what is strange about the manual... as you posted above??????
