Do I need to monitor tranny temp too? Is the factory boost gauge no good? Do I only really need the pyro gauge? Help! I have questions!!! I'm wanting the SCT II from Spartan and MBRP off-road exhaust.
Personally, I'm planning on going with EGT, Fuel Pressure, Tranny Temp, and Boost. The boost gauge is probably the most accurate of any in the dash, so it's not really required. However, I prefer for it to be in my periphial view instead of in the dash where I'm not looking when I have the hammer down. Coolant temp and oil temp aren't bad choices either.
Trans temp gauge is a good one to have, especially if you tow often. The most popular choices are trans temp, EGT, and boost. You should look for pics from CSIPSD, he has 16 different gauges in his truck
Yes you should have it rather or not you tow, but especially if you tow.

It is probably the best of those type of gauges stock, however, I like the range of display for an aftermarket 60 psi gauge and I also have an aftermarket turbo as well. Otherwise, I would actually put in engine temp(although some recommand oil temp over that and that's up for debate) in it's place if you can live with how the display(and maybe a 2psi difference between aftermarket and stock boost gauges) then you might be able to not do this one.

That gauge in my mind is not up for debate if your going to run a tuner.

I just installed mine. I have the DiPricol Optix in mine. I went for the boost, trans temp, and Pyro. They look good and yes the factory guages is accurate within a few PSI. But I too like to see it in my perifrial.
Diesel Manor was running a special package for the fords. ISSPRO guages though.
i think Fuel pressure is just as important as any of the other 3 when you're talking 6.0's..our injectors are fairly sensitive to low fuel pressure and they can eat themselves up pretty quick if there's a problem(bad pump or bad fuel)..a good FP gauge with electric sending unit(transducer) is about $200 and well worth it..my $.02
As soon as I get the extra coin that will be the next guage for me to get. I just wanted the basics for now. I am also going to get a volt meter, and oil pressure as well...looks like I 'll need that mirror mount pod anyway...
i was able to see first hand why a FP gauge is so imporatant yesterday...
i was down at the shop picking up my truck (ARP's are done!!) and another member of our local club had his truck in for some running issues...i was there when they pulled off the lower fuel filter and there was a bunch cr@p in there...the filter looked new..i called him and asked what the last filter looked like and he said it was pretty bad...he had run 5 tanks of fuel from a storage tank he had on his jobsite(bad idea to start with)..the junk from this tank clogged the lower filter and took out his fuel pump and 6 injectors..it didn't happen overnight, but by the time he realized there was a problem, it was too late..
nice thing about 6.0's is the tap for FP is at the base of the fuel filter bowl...you're reading pressure after both the upper and lower fuel filters so if you have a pump or filter problem you should notice the pressure drop..

nice thing about 6.0's is the tap for FP gauge is after both the fuel filters at the bottom of the fuel bowl... if he had a gauge, he would've seen the drop in pressure and may have avoided spending alot of $$$$ for all that hardware..
on my truck, i've also noticed a severe, brief pressure drop(down to 22 psi) when i'm under a WOT pass and the tank is at 1/4 tank...the fuel pickup can easily be exposed when accelerating(at least on my Excursion)..these low pressure events aren't as harmful as my buddies situation, but now i know to keep a little more fuel in the tank...

I had mine tapped into the regulated return(in place of the mechanical gauge that went in there from the kit) when I put my in-cab gauge and I was able to detect that the stock fuel pump was going bad 2 months after I put in the bigger injectors and when the FASS fuel pump stopped working as well.
Pyro, Boost and Trans temp are the way to go for most people. The Fuel pressure is also very nice to have. We can set you up with either an ISSPRO kit, or Dipricol. If you have any questions before you pull the trigger, just give us a call. We'll be glad to help.
I would like to thank you diesel manor for putting together a great kit at a great price. I just got the DiPricol Optix and they are a great set of guages and look awesome in my truck. Directions were great as well.
