hi all! was wondering if there is anyone out there who can tell me how to replace the heater core in my 92 f150. hope someone out there can help me out...
Pull the hoses, the glove box, the core cover, and the core. When you replace it, make sure the foam gasket is in place & that the hole that the pipes stick thru is filled with caulk or you'll get rain in the passenger floor. Copper-Coat gasket spray will make the hoses seal better & protect the pipes from corrosion.
The heater core thing is one of the biggest pain in the butt things you'll do. Shortcuts don't work. Although I saw a guy who used a deime tool to cut an acces door to his. Screwed a couple of latches on it the cut peice and cauked up the seams with black silicon. Looked preaty good.
Huh? I think it's one of the easiest repairs on the truck! Just a few screws and it falls out. Have you ever tried to do one on an '88-94 Chevy? The instructions include: "...recover the refrigerant and disconnect the air conditioner evaporator core".
The heater core must have changed a lot The last one I changed took two days and a lot of beer and skinned knuckles. It was a 76 f250 not a 92. Guess ford listened huh?
Well they must have changed, because I did the '78 and it took every bit of half a day. I'm smelling coolant right now on my 93, but I hope it's just the slight leak from the heater hose under the hood and not the core, but that makes me feel a little better if i have to replace it.
thanks
I Stand (sitting realy) Corrected. Only havin my ranger for a month now (got it off ebay) I looked, I touched, I took the sucker out just for the hell of it. 5 minutes tops. Clean out leafs n such (great ta have real heat now) and stck it back in. I wish I knew who it was that finally redesigned the thing cause I'd buy him a case.
try it on an 89 tempo coupe. the &(*&)&^^ is in the #####er of the dash right on the hump. did it in one night a 12 pack and 2 pack of marlboro reds. when i took it out it had been quite some time i guess since the box was full of water. i did that then the trans quit. i semi fixed the trans and filled my rad up then relized a freeze pulg musta come loose in the 8 months it sat. so now the POS sits again. id love to get a ranger or a 5spd tempo to put my engine though.
you know i had a red 2.3 lt 3spd auto 91 tempo lol.
pos died on train tracks most of the time and if id didnt you wer lucky. i hate tempos. i truly hate tempos. in about 5 months i turn 18 so then ill go to a factory and find a ranger somewhere that need a motor and has a 5spd and tear out my motor and comp for it. should plug right in for the most part. ill get the rwd model so i dont need anything speacial besides a starter flywheel and time. if that thing runs good then ill get a 2.9 block and start on a custom motor for my b2. then drop it in and start doing frame reinforcments and brake upgrades. then ill rebuild my old 2.9 to go into a 4wd auto ranger for my mom so i wont have to drive her to work when it snows lol.
btw my heater core is plugged up. alumiseal stopped my rad leak and my heat. thats some strong ##### im telling you.
theres three good points to my turning 18 lol.
i can get a factory job to pay for this stuff (il be running a forklift according to my cus).
i can bye my own cigs.
and i can get gas treatment by myself (guy at autozone told me about that law. kinda sucks. i cant even buy my own gas treatment)...
