A convenience store became an unwilling drive-in when a 74-year-old woman plowed her car through the front window and then tried to buy a six-pack of Budweiser, police and the owner said.
Lynne Rice of Norwalk drove her 1988 Cadillac into Joe's Food Mart and Video on Sunday evening, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Jenny Ha said.
The car plowed about halfway through the store but nobody was injured. Rice got out of the car, walked over to the cooler and pulled out a six-pack of Budweiser beer, said the store owner, who gave only his last name, Awada, to the Long Beach Press-Telegram.
I don't know how she managed to walk," Awada said, adding a cashier declined the sale and instead called police.
Rice was taken to a hospital for examination because she had a pre-existing medical condition, Ha said.
She was also arrested for investigation of misdemeanor driving under the influence and released on $15,000 bail, authorities said.
Rice could not be reached for comment Tuesday. There was no telephone listing with her name in Norwalk.
Awada said the crash destroyed two 6-foot-wide glass panels. Damage was put at about $8,000.
so i was watching cops last night, and they were on a lake, and pull over a guy with like 6 girls on the boat.
he is drunk and blows a .209
so he gets arested and then the cops try to find a sober person to drive the boat.
some girls are blowing like .100 .09 then comes the best part...
this girl blows a .339 yes that is right a .339!!!!!!
then about an hour and half later they see the same girl driving the boat with no one on it! a .339 how was she not dead?!?!?!
Both of my cop neighbors said that they have better things to do than ride around looking for people to write up for this. There were already laws against "distracted driving" before this one was passed.
just text message, that way you wont get a ticket! cuz we all knwo that talking is sooo much worse then texting.....
So much more dangerous! been a few times I was 'changing lanes' and didn't mean to while I was texting....too bad thats illegal.
my wifes company has had 6 employees this year get in accidents while answering emails on their phone
EDIT:

I heard that most wont care, and its only a $20 ticket for the first offense

Once the newness wears off, and their point has been made, I don't think we'll see many tickets written. But this goes beyond that. Have an accident, you can bet cell phone records will be subpenoed. (sp?) If the records show a call was in progress you can bet you'll get sued for negligence. That scares me a lot more than a $79 violation.
Heck, lately it seems every cop you see patrolling is on his cell phone. I don't appreciate paying their salaries while on a gab fest.
