Hi, I recently bought a 400 engine to put in my 78 F250.
The guy I bought it off of said it he thought it came out of a 74. It has a decal on the front of the valve cover that reads: EG403L0. I was wondering if that number could be used to identify what year and what kind of vehicle it came out of. It has a front sump oil pan so I assume it came out of a car, but I dont know much else about it.Thanks, any help would be appreciated.
Also on the other valve cover there was a decal that appeared to be emmisions. It had this number on it: D4AE 9C485-EB
Im pretty sure the D4 means 1974 and I think the AE means passenger car, but I dont have a clue what the rest of it means
Valve cover could be easily replaced, check the top rear of the block, behind the intake manifold, near the oil pressure sending unit hole for a casting code.
