Have a 351 with a 2 on one head an M on the other head where 2 or 4 would be on cleveland, this is a M engine with the wide tranny pattern. Is there anything special on the M head or any value? Block is D4 cleveland foundry casting. Cleaning up garage and wanna know what is scrap an a keeper. Thanks
Dave,
As far as I know all 2V heads are mostly the same with some small difference in the exhaust ports between the early and late heads, and some early heads had slightly smaller chambers. The 'M' designation didn't exist before the 351M was introduced in about '75. The 'M' head might have been a replacement head, while the '2' head might have been original.
The D4AE or D4TE(?) block is nothing exceptional, but it's a shame to see good Detroit iron go to China.
Thanks for the reply Dan,
Yea, Not sure on this block, not sure if engine has ever been apart. Still has the plastic timing gear(lots of slop in chain)
I was thinking this was a first very early 351 m engine and they finished up using cleveland heads and must of started out putting M on heads then dropped the M later on. If I remember correctly this engine came out of a 75 Ranchero.
Any one interested in a good core?? near Pittsburgh Pa
I have found casting marks on the top of the head, between the valve guides, and also on the bottom on the intake runners. Your looking for something like D1AE or D5AE.
