I've got a '73 400M, feels like it has a miss, ran a compression test...7 of them came out fine but #1 has zero compression. the cylinder gets a spark...what could the problem be? maybe a burnt exhaust valve? i notice a light valve tap when the engine's been ran a while, wondered if that had anything to do with it too.
Even a burnt valve will give you some compression. I would remove the valve cover on that side, pull the coil wire so it doesn't start and crank it over to see if all the valves are moving.
Chances are you will have to pull the head no matter what, but you may see something that can be fixed without doing that.
