I just got back from my first trip towing my new Toy Hauler. All loaded up I was pulling approx 8,000lbs. The truck handled the load very well but the EGT's were getting really high. My probe is located on the drivers side manifold and I run a Autometer NV gauge. When pulling a long hill the temp was topping out at 1250 or so. I hear the pistons melt at that temp so I started backing down. As soon as I let off the throttle the temp would drop to 1000 and stay there. It also ran around 1000 pulling on the flats. Is this safe? I have no chip and the boost gauge never read above 20#. Thanks in advance for any info.
whats up guys haven't been on here in awhile been too busy jus curious the post read first big tow whats the most you guys have pulled thought it'd be an interestin question
Hope the original poster doesn't mind the direction of his thread...
I pulled through the weigh station 10 days ago with my weights listed as:
Front axle: 5,020 lbs
Rear axle: 4,960 lbs
Trailer axles: 13,560 lbs
The truck is nearly perfect 50/50 weight distribution... Although I didn't have much fuel or water- I put in about 800 lbs of fuel and 200 lbs of water before launching!
Sounds like I should be just fine pullin my little bitty trailer. You guys are pulling some serious weight. Good to know I don't have to chew the rest of my fingernails off watching the gauge next weekend!
Hey Tom, good to see another Utah poster. I'm just down in UT county.
