OD light intermittent on
Noticed my OD light coming on while driving. No downshift or anything abnormal from tranny. Even pushed the button and tranny dropped out of OD pushed again and went back to OD. I pulled steering cover to look for frayed wires but found none. Pulled the button and base plate button plugs into out of the shifter stalk. Found smashed wires where they enter the shifter stalk. Real crappy design. Where the wires enter the shift stalk tube there is a sharp metal tube and a couple wires were cut and at least one was shorting out illuminating the OD light at times. Dabbed on some liquid tape and reinstalled. So far so good.

You might try changing out the VSS sensor on top of the rear-end.. They are only $10.49 at Napa.. P/N 530780.. (they call it a ABS sensor).. It fixed my intermittent flashing OD light. Been good for the last two years.. or...
Were you pulling a load and maybe overheating the trans?

Well I'd agree except my light wasn't flashing just steady on and not always. I stopped and pulled codes but nothing came up. I feel confident that I found the problem as it did not reappear. Tranny temp was normal and no trailers.
