5500lb pulling might be to much!

i pulled one of my friends cars with my 08 and yikes it stuggled!

1500lb trailer with a 3800lb car and my truck wasent very happy

of course with the OD off...it still felt like it was pushing, i wouldnt say a mis, but it felt weird

it wasent saggin...but it was 100% even, the rear of these trucks already sit high

i had my camera but the batteries were dead...

none the less, i just wanted to see if anyone else had a problem pouring that much weight...

What does Ford say your max GVW is? I have an 07 S/C with the 5.4L, and I have no problem pulling the wifes 1990 mustang drag car (about the same weight you had). You might be rather close to maxing out your 4.6

Ford's web site says you can pull about 6700 lbs., but that is with just a driver with no gear and cargo. When people and cargo are factored in, that extra weight needs to be deducted from the towing weight. Also the closer you get to the max trailer weight, the more the engine must work. The 4.6 is a really good motor, but towing heavy weight is not it's strong suite.

gonna start an argument, but...

I think it's a combo of your motor and your expectations. 4.6 was designed as a car motor and has been adapted to the trucks/suv's. It just doesn't have the uumph down low like the 302/351 and the 5.4

I towed this

and had 0 issues. The car is almost 4k itself, and then the trailer is a HD trailer that is over 2k. My 5.4 made short work of the pulling part and I was able to cruise 60-65 mph with O/D on.

around town it pulled fine, but when it got on the interstate, it just didnt like it.

check out a 92 thunderbird sc weight...

i think you should weight the car and trailer...

As you've read, the 4.6L is really not the best towing engine for the F150. Sadly, many have found that the biggest reason for going with a 4.6L (mileage) really isn't any incentive as most 5.4L trucks get about the same fuel economy and ultimately have more pulling capability. Of course, you may save a few bucks with the 4.6L on initial purchase and for some folks that's a primary consideration.

All you can do at this point is try to keep your loads as light as possible and be prepared for the truck to have to work a little harder to get from A to B. You may also look at some aftermarket stuff to help a little, but as they say, "there's no replacement for displacement."

Take care.

Bill

He's got the 4.6. The 5.4 can handle far heavier weights.
