what i am asking is: does the ceramic coating really make a difference or is it just a gimmick? if it is worth it to spend another $200 than i will do it, but if i could just replace the gaskets and wait for IH to get them, save $200 and have the same performance; it would be stupid to buy the DI pipes.

ceramic coating works if your going over 500 HP.(where you need every bit of help you can get)...your not going to see any gains on a stock or chipped truck just by putting them on.........

If IH ever gets them (I would imagine their backlog is pretty deep by now) AND if you want to do that job twice. If it were me I would buy the uncoated pipes from DI and be done with it. Never have to hassle with it again.
I did the donut style up pipes and then the news about the bellowed pipes was posted here for the first time about two weeks later.
I saw immediatly the value of the bellowed pipes because it corrected a very serious design flaw that generates a boost leak.
Well, not really a boost leak but a drive pressure leak, which will lower the effeciency of the engine as a whole. The higher the drive pressure, like on a hill pulling a load, the bigger the leak, and consequently the harder your engine will struggle to pull that load.
.
I bought a set of pipes as soon as the budget allowed and they sat on the shelf for six months until I had time to put them in.
In less than one year of operation my brand new donut style pipes had loosened up and were starting to leak a little and there was the worn patch on the pipe appearing.
They weren't even beginning to rust or anything. Straight to the recycling barrel. Big waste of money, IMO.
Get the bellowed pipes.
I'm surprised it'll take that long to get DI's Up Pipes. I ordered mine two weeks ago and had them (ceramic coated) last monday, just in time for my BTS trip.
