I was wondering if anyone had a black dash that would work on a 1967-1972 ford truck. If anyone has one that would like to get rid of or sell please let me know. If any pic please e-mail to me
Thanks again.
does the plastic cover look more or less original, or does it look different? I'm trying to decide whether to get one, or to shell out the $300+ to buy a new dash pad.
Thanks, it helped to actually be able to see one installed. Looks good, I think I may go with the cap and put the extra money I'll save on a dash pad into the rest of the truck.
I recently put a dash mat on top of it, and now I dont even notice the dash... It does hang loose in the middle but I hanvt tried to glue it back up. They may not fit perfect like a real dash, but price wise if it fits the budget then its worth the money.
I hit "Pick and Pull" every once in a while, you never know what you might find. They tend to have older vehicles. I found a perfect dash pad for mine (then promptly stuck a screwdriver in it taking out the instrument panel) it was blue instead of black but I used spay dye on it and it has looked great for two years.
How much trouble is it to remove/install a dash in one of these trucks? I have never done anything with a dash to be honest, so I really have no idea what i would be getting into.
I found a blue '67 dash in Snoqualmie, WA (McCuen's) for about $45. The speaker holes were cracked, so I grabbed an aftermarket 6"x9" speaker grill (free). When I got home I cut out the speaker area, drilled holes for the speaker attachment (measured and double checked my marks), cleaned the pad, and then dyed/sprayed it black. It doesn't look 100% stock, but it doesn't look hokey either;approx.2 hours worth of work &$55 out-of pocket expense...not to mention the how much more "Crystal Clear" that 1972 Philco AM radio sounds!?!
There are 10 to 12 (maybe 14?) nuts underneath attached to bolts that are molded into the underside of the dash. Its a lot easier, and probably necessary, to take out the glove box and the instrument cluster first. Half of them are on the leading edge of the pad. I took mine out a second time when I needed to install the XM radio, burgler alarm and Lojack so I could mount those things to the underside of the metal dash top. Its not that bad.
