I had my check engine light come on and it just stays lit up. How can I reset my check engine light as in get it to turn off? Any Ideas as to why it maybe on the truck runs fine maybe a bad senor or need to change something? But the point really is how would I get it to turn off period, thanks.
if your CEL is on then you might have an emissions problem you should be able to reset it by unhooking the battery but if the problem continues then the light will be back on.
bigcheese unhooking the neg bat side is right but be sure you turn your headlites on at the same time for about 5 mins--this drains your computer capacitors, if it still lights up see the dealer. ours lite up at 48000 for our 50000 mile check up--nothing wrong just a little program to draw your interest.

Yes, you can "clear" the codes by disconnecting the battery for 30 sec or so, and maybe turning on the light switch while the battery is disconnected is a good idea; but you will also lose the stored parameters your computer has learned to enable smooth engine operation for your engine. Your computer will have to relearn the specifics of your engine and drivetrain. No big deal really, just be aware that it will take a while. More importantly, the light is telling you that some component is malfunctioning. If the failure was a one time only affair, then the fault system will automatically reset after several driving cycles. If the light remains on over a period of time, then you failure is routine if not continuos. Get the code out of the computer and start looking for the problem.
Does anyone know how to pull the codes when your check enging light comes on?? I know how to on all the Toyota cars & trucks and I'm wondering if the Ford Trucks work in a similar fassion. Does Ford have your check engine light come on when you get close to 50k?
