concerned atf fluid
ConcernedRecently drained pan and tc and used forced air to blow out tru cool lines and stock cooler total drain got out 13 quarts I guess about 4 qts. left in trans .bought my atf fluid from Napa it says premium atf recommended for vehicles requiring dextron 111 /mercron my 2002 calls for mercon NOT MERCRON 5 please tell me that this Napa atf is doing no harm ,I am having no trouble now .not much towing done and I stay up with the maintance schedule and then some please advise thank you

I think if it is Mercon rated you will be fine. Ford used to not recommend Mercon V but they now say that it is acceptable....go figure. Hopefully Mark Kovalsky will chime in. He is THE tranny Guru.

Ford stopped licensing MERCON and changed MERCON V to be compatible with older transmissions. MERCON V is now the right fluid.
Your trans was designed to run on MERCON, so using MERCON isn't going to hurt it at all.
