F53 Chassis

Hello,

First time posting, but have had a few Fords in our Lifetime. We've recently entered the RV market and own an 08 Fleetwood on the F53 Chassis.

We were in an accident recently and the frame was bent into the gas tank. Insurance says it can be fixed for about $3K and we are wondering since we can't find a Ford dealer who will fix it so we can keep the warranty, should we let the insurance company repair it elsewhere.

Unit was only 6 weeks old so we are hoping for a total, but time will tell, just looking for thoughts and comments on how it will drive if we fix it. Leary about doing that to tell you the truth. Rest of the damage is estimated at around $50K.

Young lad ran a light and smacked into the rear of the duallys and tore them off the axle. Fun, Fun, Fun.

Enjoyed the ride on the chassis when it was working, great with no issues at all.

Thanks and God Bless

I would push hard to get them to total it.Nothing in the world know worse than having a new vehicle that you know has had severe damage. Also with the kind of damaged you mentioned.what other types of problems with the house portion are going to develop. If it was hit that hard chances are it twisted the roof and a leak will surely develop.
If they wont total it.let them make the decision as to where to get it fixed, you're not at fault so its their problem.

Geeze... usually frame bent = total, unless its something really easy to fix. That RV will never be the same, I'd demand they total it. Since the insurance company is not your friend here, I'd take everything they say with a grain of salt. Talk to YOUR insurance agency and see if they won't fight for you and "convince" the "young lad's" company to do their job and total it.

Thanks for the replies and we are trying to get our Insurance company to total it. The young teenager only had $10K in insurance, not even enough to cover the repairs so of course my insurance company is having to pay for it.

Glad to see that everyone else thinks it should be totaled, thought maybe I was losing my mind but even the chassis warranty books tells me in B&W that an accident will void the warranty on the chassis. Keep telling the insurance folks that and it's like they either don't get it, or don't want to believe it.

Thanks again, apprecaite the encouragement.

They will sue him for the difference, no worry They'll pay you and immediately turn around and wring it from his parents.

Especially being an RV, I would push for a total. Those bodies aren't like a car body, there's a lot of stuff that gets affected if ANYTHING is out of alignment. Not to mention there is a lot of stress on the frame there, even more when towing-

I agree

Yes, we are still hoping for a total and pushing our insurance company to realize that the frame being bent has definitely affected everything else on the coach. Being hit hard enough to bend the frame, does a lot of damage to the actual body that sits on the frame so we've been told.

We wouldn't be pushing so hard for a total if it was an older coach, but being only 6 weeks new, we believe that losing our warranties this early in the game will never allow us to be whole again.

Thanks again for the replies, we appreciate the support, we really do. Will keep everyone posted as it goes, hoping it ends soon so we can recover our summer time.
