weird vibration.

I have a weird vibration when starting from a stop.(1-5mph) It seems worse when taking a corner from a stop. When the 5th wheel is on it is terrible to about 20mph. Any thoughts???? I have already checked the u-joints and checked the gears in the rearend. Carrier bearing???????

Tom, I think you are looking at another TC. I am not 100% sure, but I would think that is what it is.

The trans masters will be here soon.

Good luck.

That would really stink. I am suppose to be heading out to the east coast on the 11th for a family reunion. That would leave me about 10 days to fix it. I was thinking it could be the TC since it lunges when it locks in but was hoping it would be something simpler.

You do know you have the dreaded DIODE trans, just like I have. I don't have a problem yet, but I know it is coming. Hey, I hope that is not the problem, but

How did you check your u-joints? Did you remove the driveshaft to be sure there wasn't a cup getting tight? A visual inspection doesn't always show a bad u-joint.

My 2000 just started doing the same thing, It seemed to have alot of play in the center bearing so I pulled it apart and added a piece of 1/4" thick piece of rubber to the inside of the hanger to tighten up the rubber cushion. The vibration almost went away, not half as bad as it was. I'm thinkin there is still a problem in the driveshaft somewhere, but i'm getting closer. FYI to get that apart you need lots of heat on those little bolts, who puts 8mm heads on bolts to hold that great big driveshaft in there.

I had the same exact symptoms. Mine turned out to be the limitless slip unit. I wasn't sure, but like you, I had checked everything else and couldn't find anything wrong. I decided to change the carrier to a gear type posi and when I pulled the original out, the clutches were worn completely out. Someone on this site pointed me to that before I pulled it, so it has happened before. I don't think anything will break, but it will annoy you until you fix it. You can rebuild it, but I don't think it is worth the time and money, but that is for you to decide.

Do you have any instructions of any kind, I have never disassemble a rear axle before. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
