I'm not too sure of the fuel mileage that my truck is getting, simply because of the fact i hardly ever fill it up due to the high price. But I just wanted to get some feed back on what mileage it should be getting and will it make a 300 mile trip on one tank of fuel...
if its got 3.73's... should get 16+, depends on tank size what the range is. My 2002 excursion 7.3L with the 44 gal tank will go over 400 miles 23 gallon if its primarily highway driving.n Its got a diablo chip,,, not sure how to id it, bought it with it in place.
I have a dually with 4 10's all stock and I get 450 miles or so on a full tank of fuel. That is with mostly non highway driving. The Lie o meter say 15 mpg average.
It depends on how you drive. Your 250 should have 3.73 gears. Set the cruise under 2,000 rpm's and you should be fine. I can get over 600 miles on a 38 gallon tank with my 350 & 3.73 rear end. I made a 350 mile trip towing 11,000# on a flat bed a couple of months ago and used just about 5/8 of a tank. Are you going to take the trip empty or towing?
thanks for the help guys... ill be taking the trip with no load and im expecting to make it in one tank the only thing is that my clock spring is done for so there is no cruise or horn, but if i can keep my foot out of it then that shouldn't matter...
Now that the weather is nice I get 700 miles per tank, and still have a gal or two left. Thats mostly rural/highway driving. I try not to take it over 1800 rmp. 55 to 60 miles per hour. So 300 should be a piece of cake.

With a short bed truck, your tank is roughly 29 gallons. So 300 miles divided by 29 gallons is about 10 mpg. Get better than 10 mpg, and you'll make it.

Running on the highway and empty you will make it with a full tank almost no matter how you drive it.
It would make more sense $$ wise to keep it full rather than empty, what with the prices rising daily.
300 miles is about a 12 pack trip.......
I,m averaging around 19-20 give or take and with a light foot under 2000 rpm,s with 3.73 gears and 285,s. I don't let my fuel get below a quarter tank and get about 440 miles with the remaining gallons present, about 3 or 4. You'll be fine.
Mine is a longbox extended cab it is about 36 or 38 gallons. I know it's around $175 to fill it. In the winter I get about 550 but I let it warm up for a few minites when it's below freezing.
