ok i have a dead speedo and a flashing od of light. looks to me to be simple enough, dead vss. took that out and cleaned it with no effect. the question is what is the test for the vss to make sure it is bad before i buy another one? thankyou
I have a sensor tester that uses LED lights to test different sensors and ignition modules. The test leads are connected to the prongs on the VSS (with the plug removed) and the ring gear is turned. The LEDs flash with VSS voltage pulses. You can also do this with an analog or digital volt-ohm meter and set it on a low AC voltage setting. Look for fluctuations, up and down, of the voltage while turning the ring gear. I usually use an analog type at work with it set on 1 volt AC and see a movement about 1/3 to 1/2 scale.
thankyou for the quick replies, i guess i will just buy another vss this one only has 240000 miles or so on it.
My VSS went bad a couple of years ago and i got one from Napa , P/N 530780 for $10.49.. solved the problem.. (they called it a ABS sensor).. If you continue to have problems, you might consider changing out the rear-end fluid. Metal flakes i think affect the sensor..
