My 2008 F 250 started making a weird squealing noise only after the truck sits say over night, it sounds like it is coming from the front brakes, but does not change when I apply the brakes. It will last for about 1-2 miles and go away. The best way I can describe the noise is how the brakes feeler guage squeals when hitting the rotor, but as I said it does not change any when applying the brakes. Truck has just over 5000 miles, F250 4X4, V10 Auto everything stock. any suggestions?
Does it have manual locking hubs, and Electronic Shift on the Fly sometimes or often you have to turn the dial on both hubs from Auto to Lock, this will keep lubrication going to both hubs, this will not hurt anything, that may be where your noise is comming from.Mine was doing the same thing, some of the guys in this forum leave them in Lock,I just put it in Lock a couple times a month.then back to Auto.
Thanks I will try that. It was at the dealer today and of course it was not making the noise, they said may be rust forming on the rotors after sitting, it has been raining almost every day for weeks here. I'm not real sure on that theory though, the noise does not change when you apply the brakes! Thanks again, I will post how things work out.
No more squeal but now I'm hearing a clanging type noise, almost sounds like a loose heat shield on the exhaust, but then every once in a while it sounds as if it is a rotational grinding. Almost as if the hub is trying to engage. This is not constant and seems to be triggered by bumps. Any thoughts? Calling the Dealer again tomorrow! Also I was under the truck this evening and could not find anything loose in the exhaust or any where else.
On my 2008 V-10 the heat shield on the muffler was making an annoying noise as it vibrated under certain conditions. It sounded like a harmonic type buzz/rattle that drove me nuts. I removed the shield and the noise disappeared.
As for your squealing noise I notice my truck will squeal if I lock my hubs or engage 4wd (esof). The squeal will last for several miles. I also noted recently that my hub dials are very hard to turn even though I exercise them monthly.
