airline industry (rant)

like a dope that i can be sometimes,(really hating myself right now)

i purchased some airline tickets this morning for 7/9/08 to go see my mom and step dad.

well 2 months ago i purchased dave mathews band tickets for 7/9/08. and right after my fat finger hit the submit for confirmation number, i had a brainstorm of the concert. well that split second was a hair to late.

roundtrip tickets....$264.00

cost to make change to flight so i can depart the next day....$238.50
$150.00 charge,plus a $88.50 difference in flight price.

cant afford to due that, cant really afford to take the trip, but i want to see my parents.

told them no thanks there price is rediculous, hug up the phone, and wanted to hang myself. been looking forward to this concert since i bought the tickets. day is ruined, feel like puking on the screen as we speak

All you have to do is call the airline and cancel the flights and rebook. As long as it is not within 1 week of the flight there is no fees.

That's what I did. I booked on line and like a dope I got AM and PM wrong. I called to change flights and it was a $150 fee. I asked what is the fee for canceling and she said none as long it was not within 7 days. I cancelled and rebooked for the flight I wanted with no fee. It was even cheaper the next day at price line.com

Then I guess your problem is with Travelocity and not the airline?

you know the sick thing about this, is that i cant afford to make the change today.but next friday, i wont getthe same quote on the next days flight because im sure it will be booked.

i willmost likely end up throwing the ticket in the trash, and buy another flight that suits my needs better for the same price most likely.

i tell ya,weve seen the airlines struggling last couple of years, but with baggeage fees now,a 150buck charge to switch flights, even though i only purchased the ticket 30 minutes before i was calling us airways.

i told the superviser nicely on the phone that "you will lose this customer the rest of my flying days over the $150 charge", i was told by jeffrey, "thats fine"

The domestic airlines are losing billions due to ever higher fuel costs and "customer service" has completely disappeared. Employees have had cut after cut after cut, so they have a bad attitude, which is a really bad thing in a service industry. The question is, would you be willing and able to pay $400-500 for the tickets in the first place and get the ability to make changes without penalty, check bags for free and deal with helpful employees, or not go at all because the price is too high? If the second answer is correct, then the industry is doomed.

want to know whats even sicker, when i go to see how much the charge is going to be,and if its to much where i can get a new flight cheaper, and if the cheapest flight happens to be with us airways,im going to fly them.

budgeting my wallet, has presedence over principle...unfortunately

dave mathews best put on a hell of a show, lol, ive been seeing them 6 years running strong, enjoyed every minute of it,and of course moms cooking as well im looking forward to.

feel a little better about it 5 hours later, ive cursed myself a thousand times, just drank a heiny, and thought that this is life nowadays, probably not going to get much better

I assume you used a credit card?

Open a dispute with your credit card company?

Those fees are ridiculous. Where do they come up with those numbers? Very sick and I'd rather drive than fly. The industry IS doomed. Maybe you can just stop payment on your credit card.

sounds like a crap load of things you have to do to get your money back... this industry has been having so many problems with scheduling and stuff for years.

used a debit card. been thinking about selling the tix, sucks though,i treat myself to something a couple of times a year because money grows on trees, and i love going to dmb concerts

ill check next weekend and see what the change will cost vs new ticket and decide.

i saw a news clip this morning talking about one of the airline companies forgot which one, but there FREQUENT FLIER miles users will now have to pay a $50 surcharge to use those miles. american airlines i think, not sure though.

sorry to anyone if i offended them with the title of the thread
