Hey guys, I'm pumped up over the show I've just come from. I want to work on my '56 panel. I am goin to reframe it, and I want to know how much a '56 panel truck body weighs? Hopefully you guys will know. You always seem to be able to help me on my quests. If you cant tell me how much a body only weighs, maybe you can tell me how much a regular panel weighs?
I'm planning on using a '98 Crown Vic for the frame, and I found out they weigh 4,020#s I figure the panel weighs less than that.
Let's see if this helps. If you're willing to assume that a 56 and 52 weigh about the same, we can compare the weight of a panel to the weight of a cowl and chassis model and extrapolate from those figures what the body alone weighs. In the chart look where it says that the total curb weight is 3300 lbs. On the cowl and chassis chart that figure is 2250 lbs. So the difference is the body, doors, seat, running boards, glass, and misc body hardware. So you're looking at 1000 lbs or there abouts. Stu
Tascon,
thank you very much for earl's reference link, that is fantastic infor that I've never seen before. I never knew that they offered the big back window in the larger trucks niether.
Thanks also to Terry for starting this thread, I'm interested in the weight of the body as well, in a few weeks I'm hoping to remove the body off of my panel so I can complete my frame.
Hey Donald, I see the 5K for the gross weight, but I was hoping for the curb weight? I wonder if there is that much difference between the weights of the F1's panels to the '53 to '56's? Thanks guys!
P.S. I have that brochure that's on that link you posted. Its an original one in perfect condition. A buddy gave it to me
Truxx - FWIW, if you use the highest GVW in the above chart, 4700 lbs, and compare it's 3325 curb weight to a similarly equipped cowl/chassis (2275 lbs) you're in the same basic ball park or maybe a little heavier. Stu

56PanelFord, normally the bigger the frame (F350,F500, F600) the better the sheetmetal because the cab was higher off the ground. This cab is a former F600 Original B/W firetruck in North Carolina.

Very nice truck tacson, you lucked out on that cab, I have a cab from a F-600 also but was a dump truck so I guess there was no need of a big window but appreciate the information I'll keep my eyes open in the future. I understand that the biggest majority of the big windows were in California, not sure how many were in Canada.
