Unsure of the tranny model, can't find a number...
The engine is currently stuck, but ran when parked some 25 years ago. I am undecided weather to rebuild this engine or replace it with another.
I am replacing the truck frame with an aftermarket rod frame.
Also what reading material is recommended for identification and rebuild.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you, Don
Second is year: 3 = 1963, 6 = 1966, 7 = 1967, etc
Third is division: M = Mercury, T = Truck, A = Fullsize Galaxie etc
Fourth is Engineering: E = Engine
Since the newest number you have is '67, IF IF IF this was pulled out of a car and plopped in your rod unmolested, it's probably a '67 2bbl 352 or 390.
It might also be a truck engine. IF it's a 390 2v from a car, it should have something like 9.2 compression. The block number makes me think it's a regular fuel 2v 390, as the M for Mercury makes me think that, the regular fuel 390 2v was intro'd in '66 (iirc based on the hours looking at the owner's manual in our '66 wagon)
Tranny:
All aluminum, C6 & this would point to it being a car engine.
Aluminum bell, cast trans, Cruise-O-Matic, could be truck engine.
If it's locked up, it has to come apart.
Numberdummy will be by to debunk any bad info and shed more light.
