what is overspray the body shop that painted my truck told me when they painted it where the paint is darker and then lighter is called over spray so I had to drop it off again.how does this happen anyway what is the guy doing wrong that is painting my truck? My truck also has white paint under the back window and my truck is dark blue how do you think that got on there from painting another car near it?guess thats what i get for going to maaco huh?
MAACO Suck. Overspray occurs when the painter swipes the spray gun over an area more then needed. The spray is finer then the main coat. If they got white paint from another vehicle on yours it must of been sitting in your bed.
overspray is the paint mist from spraying, floating in the air and landing on a panel not being painted. Since it is just a fine mist floating around from spraying, it will be dry and rough. This could be caused in the case of not painting the whole vehicle, a poor masking job, and the overspray gets behind the plastic or paper. Or on a complete, poor ventilation and it lands on panels already painted or yet to be painted and doesn't melt in with the paint that is being sprayed. Or if another car is being sprayed near by in the shop and your s hasn't been covered or moved.
Maaco with the cost, must spend little if any time in masking or prep. Like most things, if one shop charges a lot less then what others charge to do the same thing, there may just be a reason why. Is it darker and lighter, as in tiger striping in a metallic, or lighter in that you see dry/rough spots of overspray looking down a panel in the light.
If it is a metallic and the paint itself looks like a zebra, with dark bands where the gun overlapped and applied the paint heavier, it could actually be poor application, and the only way to rectify that would be to repaint.
Maaco probably has some good painters, if they manage to stick it out there for awhile, because of the high volume they paint, but its hard to do a good job when you rush too much or are not given the time to do properly, or if you've painted a ton of other vehicles already in the day, even if you have a lot of experience. Also who knows what paint they use and how well it actually applies. Also because of the reputation, they may also have very inexperienced painters, as the best ones wouldn't want to work for them.
