The message center on my 08 will display the message:
TBC Gain = 0.0
Output =
It will only show this when the trailer is hooked up so I am assuming it is for the Trailer Brake Control. What I dont understand is the purpose. My TBC is set at 10 but the message center reads 0. I thought as I applied the brakes the message center would change but it doesnt. I looked in the manual and didnt find anything about this. This message never changes, I have hit reset and setup and tried all sorts of braking options including manually operating the trailer brakes. It never changes.
Anyone have any answers or opinions?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Here is a link to the on-line manual for the 2008 SuperDuty. If your not familiar with the manual it will be at least entertaining for you and hair pulling....now you will understand why technicians can go bald prematurely.
I know nothing of the information center in the 2008. Through the diagnostic sub route it mentioned not configured correctly, which without seeing the truck means little in finding a solution to your question.
The trailer has electric brakes on it. I am 100% positive of this. As Brucefanz mentioned, they seem to be working just fine but there has to be a reason this message displays or why else would Ford put it there? I know, probably seen stranger things happen. LOL I will check out the link you sent but I have a feeling that if it didnt lead you to the answer, then I will end up in sucking my thumb in the fetal position before the night is over.

"2008 SuperDuty" is highlighted in blue. Click on that.
To answer the previous question, I have a 2 axle 4 brake set up.
I called 2 other dealers today and I could hear both of them scratching their heads. The one said he would try to find out something by talking to the techs and let me know.
Are all you guys getting this message or just some people? Once the trailer is plugged in just hit the info button to cycle through trip odometer, distance to empty, avg mpg, etc. Its not there when the trailer is disconnected.

Not attempting to change the direction, but, 10?? Doesn't that cause your trailer brakes to lock up at the slightest touch on the brake? I can't set mine any higher than 4. something. 5.6 and brakes on the trailer lock if I even think about hitting the brake pedal. Never have noticed anything on the message ctr. Will have to check that out.
I run mine at 10 too. My brakes do not lock up (3 axle, 17k lbs). This brake controller will never lock up at the "slightest touch" whatever it is set at. It is very smooth and coordinated with the brake line pressure. But I am also interested in the original question...what the heck does that message mean?? I get the same message when the trailer is connected.
OK, I got all the way to an engineer in Dearborn about this. This is the official answer for what its worth. The message we are seeing is normal and is not intended to serve any purpose on a 2008 truck. It is "pull ahead software" for the 2009 model because they are making changes to the TBC for 2009. He wouldnt tell me what the changes were but he said I would have the option to purchase the 2009 TBC if I wanted to install it on my 2008. I asked why anyone with TBC on a 2008 would pay extra to upgrade to the 2009 TBC and his answer was "no one said you had to, its simply an option".
P.S. yes I run mine at 10 with no trouble of locking them up. I haul 10-11k though so maybe thats the difference. If I run less than 5 on the TBC I dont think it actually helps, or at least not enough to make any difference in my braking.
