I had a local guy do a 4" exhaust for me, well it is rattling agains the rear mount of the leaf spring. Last night I wedged a piece of hardened rubber between the 2 and it seems to be better, but I dont see it as a long term fix. The shade tree mechanic isn't responsive unfortunately. So I am left with my d..K in my hand.
Any other ideas on what to wedge in there, besides the guys head?
First i would make him responsive and be cool about it a explain and show him the problem. You could give it a wack in that area to put a indent to compensate for the clearance. Had to do it recently to mine(trans cross member bolt). But i would tell the guy first, keep hounding him. Good luck..
I was thinking of our friend to the north, Chase has his welded.
Mine is mostly welded... the ******** at Midas forgot to weld one of the joints. However, prior to that I drove it without the clamps on there (because I forgot to reinstall them... oops) and it doesn't leak and didn't fall off either
Mine was welded out of necessity- it was NOT going to fit and clear like it was supposed to without welding. Even ended up welding hangers onto the Y pipe for the duals since the supplied hanger was not going to work. I'm happy now, but if I ever decide to do tips I'll have to get creative since my tailpipes are only about 1/2" below the bottom of the bed.
well here's what i ended up doing when i installed the 4 inch i had (now have 5" straight). no matter what i did it rattled on the crossmember. my stupid self had already tightened the clamps (hangers) too tight, and it crimped them joints too much to allow me to loosen and do much repositioning. so i wedged a piece of wood in between the pipe and the crossmember(just to hold it). i then took some exhaust strapping -- the metal kind with holes in it. i looped it around the pipe, and bolted that end. then i took the other end of the strapping and found an existing hole on the crossmember itself, and inserted another bolt through the crossmember and the strapping. this was kinda ghetto, but worked like a charm. no more rattling, only thing was it was now touching the fiberglass heat shield, so i wrapped that section with exhaust wrap to keep it from melting. i removed the block of wood BTW
Mine was hitting the trans crossmember, so I wedged a crow bar between the two and pulled with all i had, and it got the exhaust away from it enough to where it doesn't rattle anymore. I know that it isn't the same situation, but it may be something else you could try.
When i hooked mine(mbrp) up it came very close to the bolt in the cross member but didn't hit, then about 3 weeks or so i heard a rattle and that was the problem. Guess it relaxed on me but got a bungy strap and hooked the metat loop around the one hanger and went to the other end of the crossmember just to get me by till i got to it.
