I have a '66 f100 and i am wondering where i can put speakers besides the door and in kick panels. Anyone know of good ceiling mounted pods compatible with my year truck? Anyone have other suggestions or any suggestions at all of easy ways to do good installations in the door or by putting in kick panels? Thanks for any info.
Hello
Just a couple of questions:
are you wanting to buy or build?
how nuts do you want to go with it?
what kind of speakers?
any area that can't be touched?
budget?
what kind of sound quality do you want?
what other components are or will be in place?
These will all play a big part in speaker placement especially sound quality. If you get into pods ,cost will go up unless you can do some of the work yourself.

Regarding your questions: I just installed a self-built custom console on the driveline hump in front of the shifter to house my cd deck and the speakers I had are too big for putting in the door so I custom built some kick panels and installed them yesterday. It sounds pretty good but looks pretty bad. Granted, looks arent of the highest priority but bare 5/8 particle board (its all i could find and didn't want to buy anything just yet) is a little too unsightly. I don't mind a little custom fabrication, but both my collection of and skills with tools isnt the greatest. I don't have a lot of money, so some stuff is out of the question. But i do want overall good sound, so I am willing to sacrifice a little more money if something will look real good and sound even better. I'm not doing competitions or anything so sound quality and SPLs don't have to be extraordinary, but I don't want radio shack specials either. Based on this can you suggest anything? Kick panels or overhead installation is what I am looking at right now, but I'll consider anything. Thanks again.
Also...I plan to add a sub but have very little room. I know I can't find room for a 12 but I'd like to see if I can put a 10 in. I was just wondering what the dimensions are on the box for the 10 that you have and who makes the sub? Again, thanks for the info.

Well ,I would try to keep everything as central as possible.Too high or low and it's almost distracting. And if you try to do both imaging is compromised. I did a set of door panels for a '78 out of fibreglass that i took the mold from the origional panel. In the lower part of the panel just below the window crank I made speaker pods in the shape of the ford oval and routed it out just deep enough so I could friction fit a cloth covered grill made from 1/8" plywood .After I carpeted the panels with a nice black auto carpet and mounted them using screws with nickle plated caps. ( I worked on boats in a previous career.)It looked great and sounded better. If you would like I could talk you through something like that or give me some of your own ideas and we'll see what we can do. As for my 10' sub it is a Kicker impulse and requires a 1.25 sealed or ported which is kinda big ,but I have it in a bandpass which requires more air space because of the design but get the airspace by any means necessary as long as you can mount the sub. I also have Cerwin Vega Accurate Image 12" which only takes 0.86 of a cubic foot in a sealed box.I hope this helps even a little.

Here are some pics of my kick panels in my '78 reg cab, there is only 1 pic of the finished kick panel and it isn't in the truck but hopefully the other pics will give you some ideas. :-) My kicks are constructed of fiberglass with a 3/8"MDF back plate and baffle with a piece of checkerplate aluminum on the face the finished kicks have been sprayed with Armorthane(spray-in bed liner)inside and out to sound dampen them. the finished product houses JL audio VR series 6" components. 69man,I used an adhesive backed product very similar to Dynamat from a company called Sound Deadening Material. It is much, much cheaper than Dynamat etc. and preforms very well, here is a link to their site http://www.sounddeadeningmaterial.com
Thank you very much Dust3. I also must say those kick panel pods are very well done. I wish i knew how to do work like that. i had mine build by a local car audio shop that my brother works at so i got them done for cheap. congrats. if you make some more you should post a how to article we could learn from your expertice.

I have a 1969 F250, I don'k know how much difference there is between your's and mine, But I put a set of 4"ers in my truck up front under the dash, I hung a couple of boxes from RadioShack and put in Polk Audio 4"ers in the boxes, I'm going to make a how to article about it and put it on my web page with pictures, Just a little cold right now to do it. Came out really nice. I have a 110 Watt amp going to the 4"ers and a 200 Watt amp going to the 10" sub behind the seat. Oh I took out the gas tank to make room. It cranks and thumps :-)
