Just came back from a trip to Pismo/Oceano Dunes SVRA this weekend after spending a week in the sand, avoiding the heatwave...was awesome!
But upon leaving, I noticed that when I push the go pedal hard, it'll squeak- like a metal-metal squeak. Usually in lower gears or between shifts. Towed home fine. Temps approached 215-220 - only after pulling up a long incline. Then back to 190ish. (was 100+ out). After getting home, I place it in 2WD (have to use 4low to maneuver it/park the TH) - and it "squeaks" more! First thing that popped in my head was TC failure...but no noticable fluid leaks..just some minor seepage on the transfer case and rear of trans pan. Not dripping. I did a search and found belt slippage...I dunno but will check as that is preferable to a tranny. Another note, I managed to get stuck in the sand a few times too - once burying the X upto the axles - was fun getting out of that one.
Any ideas? Suggestions? - I will post some good pismo pics later.
Update: Cleaned belt/front end of engine, etc - saw leaking trans fluid from pan area and dip-stick area. I think it may be a combination of pan gasket/dip-stick area. Checked level - is within the cross-hatches. Drove truck and 'squeak' seems to be gone, but it shifts strange. First gear had a delayed engagement, then jerked forward. Soon after, the overdrive on/off light began flashing. Ideas? Anyone?
the 7.3 shifts like that normally when cold, but it also sounds like your trannys lost fluid and your o/d light flashing is warning you that you need it fixed, unfortunately, the fix requires a full taredown of tranny for components to be replaced, now i'm not certain of this but what you are describing is just like a dew cases that have come through our shop
