Well ford hasnt come out with that yet, but why do you say torque deffecient? Its only 25ft/lb less. And for all you know it might make it at a less RPM which is much better for towing. Peak numbers really dont mean anything when it comes to towing.
But your right i dont think the 6.2l is going to be any better or worse of a gas tow motor than the v10. But i think that it will be more efficient and will quicker to with the added hp.
10 cylinders produce a smoother torque. Every cylinder puts out a peak torque at a certain time in the rotation of the crank.
The more cylinders, the smoother the torque, the more AVERAGE torque.
I'm willing to bet a plug nickel that the 6.2 would not live up to the V10's torque curve.
Which is why I've heard they would replace the 5.4 with the 6.2, and then produce a 7.0 to replace the V10. The smaller bore-spacing of the modular motors actually did something worthwhile forcing them to add a pair of cylinders for more grunt.
Too bad they wouldn't produce a V10 version of the 6.2 - a 7.75
More cylinders = tougher to pass emissions too. BMW, MB, Ferrari....all are planning on phasing out V12's and V10's in favor of V8's with turbos. Plus the current Mod V10's have really nothing more to offer. Aftermarket has almost completely passed over them too.
Diesels are great except they are being so bogged down with epa crap that they are not as reliable as a gas engine from what I can tell. There is so much stuff that you have to do with the diesel now. Thats another reason turbos go belly up because they get so much crap recycled through....I dont know maybe I dont understand it clearly just my thought on it....

To my understanding that's why CAT pulled out of the truck market, the emissions *****. Some of electronics can be a nightmare and quite expensive.

The V10s do have more to offer. Remember, they never got dohc heads in a production vehicle. They had a few prototypes with reasonably good success. Plus, they could always go bigger bore, like in the 5.0's case. That would help out tremendously.
I can't see calling a 6.2 a BIG BLOCK! Anything under 7.0 IS NOT a big block!
Displacement has nothing to do with big block/small block. Its mainly the cylinder bore spacing...For example, the Ford 332 is a big block while the Ford 400M is a small block. Take the GM LS7 too while you're at it. Its a 7.0L V8 engine, but its still a small block.
