Need help with suspension.

Hello all,

I have a 1995 F-150 4X4 302 short box truck that needs some help. It only had 120K on it, and the body is in excellent shape.

I noticed just today that my rear leaf spring is broken off of the shackle. Obviously this needs to be replaced, and I need some advice on what I should do.

What parts should I buy and from where?

Are leaf springs that lift the truck up a good way to do a lift? While I am replacing the springs, I wouldnt mind lifting the truck up some. What would I need to buy for the front to keep my life even.

Is this a job that I should be able to do in my garage at home? I have done ball joints before, just want a comparison to that.

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Could this be the problem that is causing pretty bad road vibration. It only vibrates while it is in gear, it is a manual tranny.

I wouldn't drive it in this condition! It could be the cause of a vibration. Its definitely not safe to drive though.

I would go ahead and replace the hanger and shackel on the other side too.

You should replace the spring hanger at the same time so that you don't have to worry about it anymore. LMC has the parts. I'm not sure if NPD does or not, I can't remember. Direct Ford Parts should also have them. You can also find them on Ebay.

I am about to do this to my truck. I haven't found suitable grade 8 bolts to replace the rivets yet. You can use 7/16 or 1/2 if you want to drill out the holes slightly. Every place I have looked for flange head bolts only has the bolts and not the nuts to go with them. So, I am still looking for that.

Its definitly broken! You should be able to replace the shackle without too much trouble. Hardest part will be getting the old stuff off. It could be transfering the engine vibration from the axle to the frame since your spring is laying there. Good Luck
