I posted this in the offroad section yesterday and didn't get much so i'm hoping you all can help. I need to lift the rear of my 79 F150 4x4 6" total. I want to do this without blocks. I have a Sky flip bracket that I was going to be using on another truck that will be used on this. Just doing this will give me 1" of lift with block removal so I still need to get 5-6" more lift. I've done some research and one spring keeps comming up DEAVER's. I called them today and got a quote of $800 then got to thinking of JBG and looked and they have some for $549.
What is the difference between the two. Will they both flex good or should I be looking for a different spring setup. Sorry, I don't know much of leaf springs and to be honest until recently I didn't care to. Now I need to and don't. Another option said was the chevy spring swap. Would that be a better alternative to the Deavers? Thanks for the help
I'm not sure there is such a thing as a BETTER alternative than a Deaver spring. I'm sure there are CHEAPER alternatives though. The ones from JBG are Deavers, and are probably the same ones Deaver quoted you for 800.
What ya got against blocks? With a good spring pack, they are fine in moderation. I have 5.25" blocks on my 05 F-150 with 35's and 4.56 gears. I have no serious axle wrap problems. I regularly tow around 15,000 lbs GCW. Even with that much weight, I can stomp the skinny pedal and spin the rear tires on pavement.......nothing has broken yet.
Maybe it's the springs. My 99 with 3" blocks had bad wrap. And my 79 F-250 with the factory block is even worse.....
Well, this truck as was had some bad hop. I already have some ideas for a traction type bar to keep the wrap in control. Reason I am saying no block is I'm not real sure what amount the front is lifted. I went with a set of 6" deaver superflex coils but the rest of the front end is custom. I have a 96-97 D60 BJ axle under there with brackets and then coils on top of that. In the begining before I tore the truck down I measured the axle tube to frame measurement. Somehow that sheet of measurements has gone missing and I think I might have a little bit more than 6". If that is the case then that is where the rear will get the blocks. I just want to make sure I have the 6" in the rear minimum
I see. That make sense. Sounds like you have the right plan. Looks like new 6" springs are your only practical option. Then, you can always add or subtract blocks to get the exact height you want.
they seemed to ride pretty good for such a tall lift. They still carried a heavy load. Not sure how soft your looking for. It was a long time ago but I think the truck sat close to level, I ended up putting the factory block under so the back would sit higher then the front. If you allready have a shackle lift then you should be good.
I just purchased the 6" deavers from JBG. Got them today actually. I won't be able to install them for another month or so though. I wanted to go up 2-3" in the back and remove my factory 3" block to get rid of any axle wrap....just put the springs right on the axle perch.
