HELP!! Electronic Throttle Control troubleshooting
I'm supposed to leave tonight to go on a trip but that ain't happening since all the Ford dealers parts dept are closed on Sundays.
I'ts driven fine for 58k and now this morning the wrench light is on along with a check engine and it barely idles. Pushing on the gas to the floor only raises the rpms up an extra 100. Will only idle, can't drive.
I pulled the pedal assembly which was really easy. Is there any way to test it? Since I can't drive it, I need to get the right part the first time tomorrow morning so I can come home, install, hook up the trailer and get on the road.
Does anyone other than Ford sell the pedal assembly?
Well I was reading that the drive-by-wire systems had the tps on the pedal and thats usually where the problem lied. They also said the only way to replace it is to replace the pedal assembly (IIRC?).
I took the pedal off, real easy. Three bolts and a connector. It's sealed up and can't be opened. Had it towed to the dealership last night so we'll hopefully get it back today fixed. I'll post what they find.
I just got it back after two days waiting for a new throttle body. The TPS went bad and they have to replace the whole TB. None in Cal, came from AZ and if that one didn't show up, the next closest was TN! Hope everyone won't have this problem due to the limited avail on these things, at least west of the Mississippi.
Turns out the TPS itself is not replaceable by Ford, they replace the whole TB. I did remove and reinstall it before I took it to Ford and found that NAPA had them but of course, out of stock. It bolts on the TB just like any other TPS.
Drove fine for 550 miles yesterday.
Extended warranyt covered it, otherwise it would have cost $516 installed!
I'm sure the DIY types would do the r&r and save the labor cost as I would have if not covered by the warranty. It's easy to remove.
