Headers? performance vs. gas milage

What do headers do to your gas milage?
How noticable are they performance wise? Are $150 set of HedMan or FlowTechs a good buy. How expensive do you have to go to get a decent set?

Headers increase air flow and reduce drag in the exh. system. I would recommend building a dual exhaust with your new headers. Expect to see a minimum of 25hp and a little bit better fuel economy. $150 for new headers is a good deal

I just put the $150 hedmans on my 73. I like them. I had to shim my p/s motor mount so header would stop rubbing on crossmember though.

Headers are without a doubt the biggest bang you can get for your buck performance wise, they really let your motor reach it's full potential and BREATH! and they promote exhaust scavaging, increase low end torque and horsepower, it's the first upgrade anyone should do.

well i talked to the local muffler shop and im set on dual cherry bombs. nothings changing my mind about that. you just have to to have a complete RedNeck F-100. Its gonna b 200 to have them put on and true dual side exit b4 the back tires. Im going to wait and put the the exsaust and headers on at the same time. thats 350bux so after this 800dollar motor rebuild its gonna b a lil while.

Good price for the exhaust. It cost me that much to do my own at the shop I worked at.

Yeah, thats a good deal bud, cant go wrong. You are definitely going to notice a bump in power. Now try an aftermarket 4bbl intake and a cam and you will really notice something lol..

Im getting the Lunati high efficiency cam and lifter kit High Efficiency Cam Kit - Ford 351C-400M 260/260 - Lunati Power
Ive already got an aftermarket intake w the 4bb Holley carb. Im thinkin its a 650 or so. It was there when i got the truck.
Ya that estimate was for 2 brand new cherry bombs(at 30bux a peice), true duals, side exit, no tips. He said definatly less than 200 but prob 180bux

I have a set of used headers from a 400 anyone can HAVE if you come pick them up in Rock Island, IL. They aren't the prettiest, but they are solid and I have the bolts for them too. My deal is, I got them from the salvage yard on a rebuilt 400 I recently bought. I use my truck for snow plowing, and the headers would just rust through in the first season if I were to use them, then I'd have to redo my whole exhaust. I also have a weind 4brl intake and questionable holley available if anyone wants to make an offer. Again, these must be picked up, I won't pack and ship or I'd EBAY. I'm not here to sell, just thought I'd mention the free headers, then figured I'd pipe up about the intake / carb. Cheers!

I ran Cherrybombs on a 289 in a 1967 mustang that had Hooker headers.

The headers and cherrybombs will ruin your gas milage!

Why?

Because you will always want to hear the roar! (Tim the tool man grunting sounds)

I want to do headers, EFI, HEI, high flow cold air intake, and overdrive on mine. I'm sure I'll get one hell of a boost in mileage (not sure what I'm getting now, but even if I'm getting 5 - at the low end - and go to 10, that's double. More likely going from 10 to 15).
