im getting the urge to tell my engine guy to put at roller cam in my engine. i was going to be using a xe262h....what would be the equivilant to this cam in a roller, meaning in driveability? id like to make some more HP, so something bigger in a roller version would be nice if i could keep the same low end torque as a hyd. flat tappey xe262h but gain some rpms and hp at the same time.
also, whats the difference in price in putting in a roller set-up vs replacing the flat tappet cam, lifters, pushrods, guide plates and springs. like 5-600 bucks?
The xe262 is a great cam. I like roller cams because the valves reach full lift faster and stay there longer. It gives you a much wider power band. For a 335 series motor you will want to have a custom ground cam, as the 260HR and 270HR are the only out of the box roller cams (simulare to the xe262) that I am aware of. Nothing wrong with the 260HR or 270HR, but I would only run them if I was going to do some head work to the stock heads or run CHI heads. If you are going to run stock heads or aussie heads then I would have a split duration roller cam ground. It is not really that much more expensive and you get a cam designed for you particular engine.
i was hoping there was a larger selection than i saw on the internet.
i was seeing alot of people use those cams as blower cams, well the 270 mainly. i thought i might have been just in the blower cam section. lol, i know the engine guy i go to likes to have cam craft custom grind stuff anyway, so that might make him happy.
I would go with the custom ground cam if you go roller. If a flat tappet cam I would buy off the shelf because there is just about every profile available. I think you will be very happy with the custom ground roller cam.
And you will want adjustable roller rockers. Scorpion is probably the best value @ around $200.00 a set.
I assume you are going to replace lifters and springs anyway, so figure what you were going to spend on a non-roller cam then look at what the roller cam will cost. Then look at the difference and ask yourself if you think it is worth the difference.
i think just not having to break in a cam with todays oils is worth it. i have adjustable rockers on the aussie heads i have. they will be going on it. the heads needed guide plates anyway, and they have good springs on them but im sure they wont fit the application anyway.
