Most of the ones I have used asked to be mounted close to the battery.
The capacitor housing needs a good ground.
Power from the battery to the capacitor, then from the capacitor to the stereo.
The trick is after you go through the capacitor, you don't want to run your wire parallel to other wires that are close to your wire if there is any way to avoid it.
Like don't zip tie your wire to one of the truck wire looms.
Also running a ground from the battery straight to the stereo will help eliminate noise.
