Stock Explorer Head Unit Problem
I have a '98 Explorer Ltd. with the Mach audio system, CD changer, etc.... I think I've killed the head unit. When playing CD's in the head unit, it would just stop, or act if the CD was skipping... when I hit the front, it would start again. I guess I hit it too hard one time because now the display has quit on me too... Argh. :/
Any suggestions on where to find a replacement for one of these, or possible avenues for repair on the one I have? If I replace it, I'd like to get the same one. It's a little different to some other Explorer stereos I've seen... this one has more text info on the display (i.e. it will say 'CD 01 TRK 02' where I think the other says 01-02 or something.
Any advice much appreciated.... Thanks...
Stu
Check out radiosandmore.com for a new replacement or recommendations. You can also go to evisteon.com (the company that makes the Ford head units - it used to be a division of Ford but got spun off) and they can put you in touch with a repair center in your area. Your best bet may be to go to an auto salvage yard and get one out of a crashed vehicle. You probably can use one from any number of Ford vehicles in that year.
