New User Trend?

I've noticed several 3, 5, even 8 year old threads with new users replying like it was yesterday, or asking a semi-related question to the last poster. I know it's a fascinating place and folks go into the threads for all hours when they first join. But some of these must have been 100+ pages back!? A sign of a slowing economy perhaps? Not enough to do, so go through 100 pages of 302 questions..?

Or is it just me?

I'm thinking it's probably got something to do with the search function. New users looking for something with search and clicking on the most relevant, but making it look like thread mining.

I've even searched for stuff, and it isn't the same as it used to be. Back when Greywolf was celebrating his 19000th post, I went to search for his first ever post. Couldn't find it.

But searching something specifically that was OP'd a couple weeks ago, couldn't find that either, but came up with lots of stuff from years gone by.

When I was new I read something that said to do a search for the info you're looking for, rather than just post right away....maybe they're listening?

i have even seen people giving advise years after the fact. We had some guy in the So Cal section who was trying to transport a car back in 05 and someone posted giving him advise about who he would do it. I was so lost for a second because it was talking about gas being $2.45 or something.

Google will also bring up a thread, no matter the age, if the right words are matched...

Of course sometimes it takes longer searching for an answer rather than just asking the same questions again in order to get a quick response. I run into that kind of situation every now and then. I will spend an hour or so searching and searching reading old threads and not find the answer I was looking for and so I'll just start a new thread and within minutes I get an answer I was looking for. So, it can be frustrating answering and seeing the same questions over and over, but it also can be frustrating searching and searching.

But, I have to agree. Seeing someone post on an old thread is funny.

I'm new also but I can atleast read the date and tell that the info is no longer needed. All new users shouldn't get a bad rap for what a handful are doing.
