I am installing intermittent wipers on my 65. I have almost everything I need. I have the tech article written by William Dahn, thanks, but I want to make sure I don't fry anything. I got the motor from a 77 and the switch and module from a 85. I only have two wires that are not hooked up to anything. One is a ground and the other is an orange wire with a white stripe. Do I need to cut into the 4 wire harness that goes to the wiper motor. Here are some pics.
The orange/white wire is the power wire... it needs to be connected to 12V positive from the ignition switch assessories side... the green and the white wires are for the washer fluid pump.
no need to cut into the other wires...
You'll need to use the arm and mount bracket from the 66 so the motor & arm is clocked in the correct position
When I was bench testing the motor and switch the first time I did not have it hooked up right. The motor case was not grounded. Once I ran a ground wire from the negative side of my battery to the brass ground strap on the wiper motor everything worked great.
All I need now is a single speed wiper arm and I will be all set.
You should use the arm from the original single speed motor in your truck. Unless your original motor was a Bosch American two speed? Send me a PM and I'll try to help!
Yes I have the 2 speed wipers on the truck now. Maybe someone wants to trade a single speed wiper arm for a two speed motor and switch?
That is all that is holding me up from actually putting the new motor and switch in.
The arm that William referred to only effects parking nothing else. Parking is where it stops when the wiper switch is turned off. The incorrect one could leave the blades up on the glass somewhere rather than down at the cowl.
William has a high grade updated truck, what I might call the Bossmans truck. SWEET.
Send me a PM with your mailing address and I'll send you an arm. The two speed deal is E-bay bait for someone doing a picky restoration. There was a guy on here a while back from Talkeetna. See if you can locate him as I recall he had a lot of Ford stuff. I lived in Alaska for a few years and really miss the place (Eagle River). My truck is parked for now, no time to play! Retirement sucked big time so I bought an Exterminator Company. This business is a blast and I don't hate Mondays anymore. Really busy now.
