Hyd clutch

I've an 89 F250 460 5 spd that developed clutch activation issues. This is in the hyd linkage, and I can find no way to bleed the system, or for that matter disconnect the slave from the master. My experience over the years tells me I have slave cylinder issue. Whats to do? Thanks

You slave is inside the bell. There may be a plug under there with an allen screw to bleed it. Got a manual for this truck?

This was covered a few times in the Clutch/trans forums.

You can search using the search function above, try "concentric slave" as the search and you might get lucky.

Also, have someone work the clutch while you closely watch the clutch master. Flex in the firewall will rob clutch motion as well. A little flex, a little bulge in the line, a bubble of air, all together now: NO CLUTCH.

Good luck.

The 460 slave is outside the bellhousing, held on by a clip, it pops off in a second. It was an immediate thing, clutch working fine, half a pedal and then no pedal. How does the plastic line come out of the slave, or the master for that matter? Thanks

This is a ZF trans?

According to prior posters, iirc, look for a collar near the connection, look for somewhere you can press to release the connector. Vague enough? That's what's been posted, that when you find this magic button, you press it in with something pointy and it releases the line. BUT I've also seen it posted that the whole assembly comes as one when you want to replace a component. I'd keep looking for any kind of bleeder....

Sorry I'm not more help.

Thanks guys, I find the slave is the same as the 7.3 diesel, and the plastic feed line is held in with an 1/8th in roll pin on both the master and the slave. I disassembled both, cleaned with alcohol and the system bled out fine. Thanks for the input. The smaller engines use a tool to depress a spring clip, but those have the slave internal in the bell housing. Different deal.
