Anyone Experience This Problem?
Ok to answer some questions. I have a OBD1 and 2 scanner that gives quite a bit of info while driving. Its a Actron CP9145.
Cruising flat its about 25 to 27 as high as 35 too.
Climbing grades it lowers as I stated, sometimes as low as 5 deg.
I have come to the conclusion that messing with the computer (programming it) would only send me into higher octane usage, so thats out.
What I did to almost completely get rid of the down shifts was to change the rear gears on it. The truck was ordered from the factory with a towingpackage, complete. Why Ford would put 331 gears in it with towing is beyond me! I did some math and by going to 373's I would raise the rpm's about 300 rpm and give me some added TQ.
So I went this route, ordered up a complete rear rebuild kit with the 373's and installed them last weekend. Good news!! Only one hill against a heavy wind sent me into TQ convertor unlock just once in the weeks time. Even better news!!...........My gas milageincreased by doing this 2 MPG!!!!
Cruising at 65 now is 1900 rpm versus 1600 before with the 331's.
Anyone want 331 gears? There yours!
I was 13.5 mpg and now am 15.5.
