This is what I am runnning:

Most Popular Products - Baumann Electronic Controls, LLC

I'm not sure if it can completely replace your OEM PCM, but calling to find out will do no harm. It is the cheapest one on the market at $450 for the PCM (harness extra).

The only other ones I've seen start at $1400 so I didn't bother bookmarking them, but there are others out there for sure. So far I can't complain about how my TCS has worked for me.

Crazymike, Banks Power has a trans command for the E4OD at aprox. $250.00 it sounds to me like thats the one you are talking about...I have the B&M shift plus+ also works on the E4OD. Jegs/Summit your local parts store has it for $42.00 it works 'OK' but 2 wire hookup and 42 $$ it cant be beat...

Mike, I just looked at your sig and realized that you have a 1991. That means that your speedometer is independant of your PCM since its cable driven. I don't know how the tachometer is wired into the PCM, if at all, but if it is also independant, than the baumann controller should work for you.

I'm not sure, but I think the 1989-1991 used the PCM strictly for running the transmission, and only monitered the vehicle speed and engine RPM instead of controlling the actual signal through its processor. Might be worth finding out more about how yout truck is wired up.

yea i sent a mail to the bauman people this afternoon, it probably wont be answered till m0nday, but after reading up on the unit it seems like it will be able to controll the transmission without needing anything else helping it. as i understand its for putting newer electronic transmissions in older vehicles. im allready looking forward to being able to fine tune shift points and what not.

Well I could have told you that. It can control everything that the original PCM can, and basically all of it is programmable. The only potential problem is if other systems in your truck are routed through the PCM as well. The 1992 and up trucks are a different animal in that respect because speedo and tach signals go through the PCM. My 86' never had a computer, so no problem there. But as are as being a standalone controller, yes that exactly what it does.

The shift points are where ever you put them, torque converter lockup is up to you. I set mine up as 1,2,3, lockup, overdrive locked, so the TC lockup is like a 4th gear for me when above 50 MPH. You also have the option of a second shift table to use for whatever you want, like say a towing program for higher line pressure for example. I use mine to unlock the torque converter on command. The only feature I haven't tried yet is the "manutronic" function. Basically, you can use the buttons of the cruise control to manually shift the transmission up and down.

The only real downside I found is that there can be a steep learning curve when you first try tuning it and there is a lot of trial and error. Then you will go through the nit picking phase, because once you get the hang of it, its really quite easy.

You can order a wiring harness to the dimentions that you need for your installation if you ask for it. The basic instructions on installation and setup are all on the website so you can get a good idea of what you are up against. A laptop is not mandatory if you get the AC adaptor ($25) at the same time. This lets you use your desktop PC to tune the controller as well. But its still easier to use a laptop because there is a feature to auto detect the TPS position that makes setup easier.

I would do some reading on their website and also on the wiring of your truck to make sure that if you remove the stock PCM no other systems will be affected. I guess you could also just unplug the PCM to see if the tach still works.....
