I get 12 hwy., 11 towing hwy., 9 to 10 mixed towing. Mainly only driven towing boat or travel trailer. Don't know what it would get if I drove it like I stole it.
How do you like that scangauge2. I was thinking about getting one....
My milage is 8 towing. 11.5-*12 hwy. 9.5-10.5 around town.
Sorry, I was on vacation and missed your question.
I like the ScanGaugeII. On our trip to Myrtle Beach I watched a lot and changed to different gauges. I discovered that my AutoMeter Tranny temp gauge (sending uit installed in the diag port) shows about 8-12* lower than the internal OEM temp gauge and for the most part, the tranny stays about 2-3* lower than the H2O temp. The highest temp I hit on the tranny was 216* sitting in traffic with an anbeint temp of 97*, at the time the H2O temp was 220* (AC running).
I used to hate to drop in to 2nd when towing up a short grade, I would generally back off and let the tranny go back up to 3rd and the RPMs drop - but I noticed that this method acutally resulted in lower MPGs. Running up a grade in 3rd at ~2200 RPMs result in fewer MPGs than dropping in to 2nd and running ~3k RPMs. At least for the short term. (*This is my experience, others may differ)
I'm searching for additional codes that I can use in the XGauge (like Oil Pressure), but overall, I'm very happy with it. in fact, I think I'm gonna pull and sell my AutoMeter guage, sending unit and double POD mount.
Most of our driving is 10+ miles at a time, running 40 to 65 mph. We get 12-13 mpg.
On a highway trip, we get about 14-15. On a highway trip, running over 65 mph drops the mileage. I think if I could run at 60 mph, I might get 15-16 mpg.
I've never seen less than 10 mpg. 11-13 would be our range.
If you do a lot of in-town, stop n go, I can believe 8. Otherwise, you'd have be be stomping on it to get down to 8.
We are in CO and use 87 octane.
Keep the rpm's under 2000 and you should get 12 mpg. If you stomp on it, and during acceleration go over 2000 rpm, you can expect to lose 1-3 mpg; that's my subjective opinion.
I just did another California to Colorado trip towing a 5x8 Uhaul trailer. I set the cruise by RPM not MPH, 2200RPM (about 72MPH) and I got 12.4MPG for the trip. After unhooking the trailer and driving around here in Colorado my MPG was up to 13.4.
I have a diesel and I get around 16-18 Average, but it only goes on road trips, not around town. I have gotten 19.5 out of it if I travel down the interstate and never get above 60. It had a GearVendors Overdrive when I bought it that later went out, it would get 22 mpg going 60 with that, but you couldn't pull a hill worth crap.
I decided to pass on the Excursion(actually I dragged my feet and he sold it).Anyway I thought it was a good deal but decided I'm not ready for a car payment right now. When I get one I'd like it to be white and tan just like my Expedition. So I will keep loooking but its looking like my best friend and I are going to open up a detail shop together. Its something I've always wanted to do and I think now is the time. So a car payment even though it would be a small payment is just not what I want to do now.
Thanks for everyones input.
I get just about the same! Wish I could get better on the towing since that is how I use the X 95% of the time.
Actually I just got back from a trip with the TT. I got 8.7 towing at 65mph. I tried 62 mph, but the X just didn`t like that speed. it would hunt between 3rd and O/D. at 65 it cruised beuatifully in O/D. but as usual, every year on our WI. trip, I get approx. .8 mpg less coming home (IL.) I can`t figure this out at all!
