I have the chance to buy an 03 Excursion with 77542 miles for $9995. Right now I have a 97 Expedition with 106754 miles. My truck has been constantly maintained and I'm unsure if I should get the Excursion. In my Expedition I get between 11-14 miles per gallon. Could I expect the same from the Excursion?

Nope. You can expect about 8 to 11.
Some people will disagee with me on this though. Some claim to get 14, 15 and 16 out of the V-10. I say they are basically doing right much highway driving if they do get much more than 8 to 11 mpg.
I moved from the navigator to the Excursion (although I bought a diesel). The Excursion is wider and taller than the Expedition, so it makes sense that all else being equal, highway milage will fall by a few percent (10 seems good). The Excursion is also substantially heavier (hurts in stop-and-go traffic) and the V-10 can be abused to produce quite a bit more power than the engines shipped with the Expedition (hurts the lead-footed).
But that-all-said, if you're not commuting daily with it --- ie: it's a trip vehicle, it's the Queen Mary. Treat her like a big ship and you'll be pleased. The 10% or 15% extra fuel is well spent considering the extra room and extra capacity of the vehicle.
Also... the amount of extra fuel you consume on the highway will be strongly related to your speed --- consider that wind resistance to speed is a highly non-linear relationship... so if you're a conservative driver (and it's easy to be conservative in the X) the penalty in fuel may be more acceptable.
It all depends on where you live. In my 07 Expedition EL I was getting 12 mpg city (live in the canyons) and 17 highway. With my V10 03 X I am getting about 10 city and I approx 15-16 highway depending on where I go. It also depends on if you are a lead foot or not. I was more of a lead foot in my Expy than I am in the X. I would go for it, that is a great price and they are WAYYYYY better than the Expedition. And this is coming from someone who has owned 3 Expeditions and 2 Excursions.
On gas, the cheapest I've ever measured my Ex 2001 4x4 V10 to is 14.5 mpg, that was on a trip for many hours at almost constantly 60 mph, stock dimension tires. Normally I run it on propane, which gives an average (mixed driving) of 8.4 mpg. That is on 315/75-16 tires.
My 05 Limited X has stock size tires and I get between 14.4 and 16.4 on the highway. 10.3-13.3 around town (10.3 if my wife drives, 13.3 if I do). I also have a 99 V10 F250 and get about 9-10 around town and get 15 on the highway (got 17 once! ).
If it checks out clean and you have it looked over with no problems, you got a good deal you should jump on.
I'm glad to see people finally posting realistic mileages for the V-10. When I first joined this forum there were fairy tales circulating about getting 15 mpg city and 20 to 23 mpg on the highway out of a V-10. Just ain't gonna happen in an Excursion because of the weight of these beasts. You should have felt my Excursion on the back of a wrecker a few weeks ago. It was just like a tug boat attempting to pull the RMS Queen Mary! The tow truck driver, a close friend of mine, said if he had to tow me very far he would have brought one of their commercial Peterbuilt, Kenworth or Western Star wreckers.

Me too, when I was in the market for a new X, the dealer I was looking at told me 15 city and 20 hwy for a V10 ; they also told me 18/22 for the 7.3. If only it were true.....
Mine is 2WD, but I get 11-12 city and high 14's low 15's HWY at 75MPH...wind makes a big difference. I get 8-9 towing our 29' TT at 65MPH. I'd go for it...the difference in MPG is not enough to base any decision on, the difference in capabilities is.
I seem to get just slightly higher than others here - 100% legit, I get 13.4 mpg mixed driving (city/hiway) and the best I've seen was last year traveling I90 between Sandusky and Buffalo - scored 16.3 mpgs on that trip, but it's a long and relatively flat interstate... I set the cruise @ 68.
Towing, I typically get anywhere from 8-10 depending on terrain and how big of a hurry I am get to the campground and pop a beer!
My X is 100% stock (265/75/16 tires) except I added the RAS this past April.
I just bought a ScanGauge2 and now I can see where the MPGs go... it takes quite a bit of gas to get this beast moving! And I was surprised to see that just ideling it burns any where from 0.72 to 0.92 gallons per hour (no AC vs AC).

Less than a gallon per hour? Anyone else have that? I would have guessed that to be higher...only one per hour...seems great to me. Anyone know what other vehicles do idling? Always see the big rigs idling, but if they avg 1-2 gallons per hour, that is not much at all. I just thought it would suck down more than a gallon per hour.

On my 01 Accord (v6) idling is usually consuming 0.60 gal/hour and with the AC running its more like 0.70 gal/hour... so I guess for the 4 additional cylinders its not that awful bad, I just never really realized how much gas is wasted idling... that is until I started paying $4 a gal for it.
