misfire on #3
Had a CEL come on the other day with a misfire on cycl. #3 at 114k. Back when truck had 104k had same CEL misfire on #3. Both times the plug looked fine with no signs of a problem so a new plug was installed solving the issue. What would cause two plugs in the same cyclinder to go bad in that manner.

Have you checked the wire that goes to the plug. That may be the problem. By the way,
when did you last change the plug wires? Also, does your 4 cyl. engine have single or dual plugs? If it is a dual plug engine, the problem could be with the #3 plug on the other side.

I have the 4.0 6cycl. so it is surely the #3 cyclinder. The wires were changed at 75k so they look really good. Could it be a non-ignition problem doing something to the plug to make it go bad?

You might want to do a compression check, and also a cooling system pressure test, both of which could help determine whether the problem is a base engine concern (such as a leaky intake or head gasket). You can "rent" the requred tools at places like Autozone or Advance Auto.
