im on the tail end of a disc brake swap for my 68.concerning the bleeding of the mc, lines ,and calipers, does anything have to be done to the proport. valve? have been told this needs to be bled also.ive already bench bled mc,and am ready to proceed with the rest ,but want to make sure its done right the first time.i believe this valve has some sort of bleeder pin at the front of it but not sure.any help would be great.
I did a front disc brake swap in my 75 f100 4X4 a couple of years ago and I just bled the front then the back, although had to do it a few times and then prop. valve should center itself. It took alot of bleeding and then driving for a while for all the air to finally work itself out. Along with a regular power steering upgrade that was the best upgrade I have done for drivability.
There is a way to lock the proportioning valve while bleeding the system - if I remember right it has a bypass for that purpose. I just don't remember how it is done.
I had a 73 Gran Torino that was a mighty bitch about that, and I have forgotten what is involved but I know you can do it and it makes it a lot simpler. If I remember right, there is a bypass bleeder on the side of the proportioning valve itself.
It's also important to step-bleed the valve back into the center position so the brake light warning on the dash goes out and one or another line is not blocked by the proportioner piston. (This can ruin braking function front to rear)
