i know this is a premium sound forum, but am hoping you'll help out a guy on a non-premium mission.
i have a '68 f100, that had the AM radio and single speaker in the dash. in the back of my lmc catalog, i saw a dual voice coil speaker that supposedly mounts in the same location.
this would let me run a modern radio, without cutting/adding anything in the cab.
has anybody seen one of these, or know if they actually fit?
Well, if the doors are built the same as my 78's, there willbe holes in the doors for speakers. If at all possible, go to speakers in the door, kickpanels or two in the dash.
Well then I guess you have a few options,
One, put them into the dash (left and right) facing upwards towards the windshield - the most work, if no holes already- plus a bear to get in and out!.
Two, buy or make custom kickpanels - try crutchfield.com - medium difficulty. Kickpanels are located in front of the doors, where my high beam foot switch is located.
Three, drill holes into the door and door panel - not too hard, easy to work on. Use a drill, grinder, anything!
Kickpanels supposedly give the best sound, as the speakers are located more evenly between your ears. Cruthcfield explains it.
