Replacing stock radio

I have a 1992 clubwagon with factory radio/cassette and six factory speakers. I would like to put in an aftermarket cd player but am wondering if mine now is what they call premium package. I heard that the premium sound system has a seperate amp for the speakers and I need to know a way to determine if mine has the premium setup. Is it hard to wire up an aftermarket system if i have a premium stock one already? Also should I replace the speakers or can I run a new cd player with them safely?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey Owl, I have no idea about your factory setup, but as to replacing the speakers, I personally would. The stock speakers are never really any good, and they are probably pretty dried out by now. Paper + Heat = dried speakers. just my .02
